"To serve is to be a feather on the breath of God."
~ Hildegard of Bingen

Do you remember the beginning and ending scenes in Forrest Gump? The film begins with a feather falling at Forrest's feet as he sits at a bus stop in Savannah. He picks up the feather and places it in a book then begins to tell his story to the woman sitting next to him on the bench. At the end of the movie, Forrest is sitting with his son waiting for the school bus. Forrest opens the book his son is taking to school and the white feather from the beginning of the film falls out is taken away with a breeze and drifts up into the sky.
Feathers are so light that they are easily carried away with the wind or even a gentle breeze. It seems as if they are always in motion, unless trapped (or stuck in a book). Even when a feather is not floating through the air, the slightest hint of a breeze will cause the edges of the feather to flitter.
Imagine that your life and service for the Kingdom of God is a feather. Are you gliding through the breeze, touching others with the love of Christ or are you trapped where you cannot move? Is your joy in the Lord contagious or stagnant? Is your heart open to serving others or closed and self-centered?
"To serve is to be a feather on the breath of God."
Oh my sweet friends... I so want to be a feather on the breath of God! What about you?
