Nick and I had dinner at Kami's recently. At the end of the meal the waiter brought out our fortune cookies. Now I have never gotten very excited about a fortune cookie. It's not like the secret message inside the cookie was written just for me. They make thousands upon thousands of fortune cookies and many of them will have the same message... usually something ridiculous.
However, on this particular occasion, I got a very thoughtful message! It said, "About time I got out of that cookie!"
I got quite a chuckle out of that fortune. I even saved it.
I have a box on my desk that is filled with messages that WERE written just for me... and just for you. We don't need to rely on fortune cookies, crystal balls, or horoscopes. We have God's Word and His Word is alive and real and just for us.
On my birthday, the staff got together and selected verses just for me. They printed them out on strips just like in a fortune cookie. I take one out of the box every week and place it on my desk, just in front of my computer monitor so that it's right in front of me always. This week my verse is, "LeAnn, call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and will bring you back from captivity." (Jeremiah 29:12-14a)
Uhhh huh.... I have been brough back from captivity. Just like my little fortune cookie message (about time I got out of that cookie) I am out of my pit... out of the chains that bind.
