Give Thanks to the Lord

Families have different traditions for Thanksgiving. Some spend the entire day cooking, watching football games and, of course, eating. Others go out to dinner or head over the river and through the woods to Grandma's house. Others go to the movies. Many families sit down at the dinner table and take turns sharing something that they are thankful for before digging in to their big turkey dinner. Whatever your traditional Thanksgiving consists of, here a few ways that some of my friends give thanks to God during Thanksgiving:
  • Create a Thanksgiving Tree: Take a tree branch from the yard or use a houseplant and decorate it with construction paper leaves on which members of your family have written what they are thankful for.
  • Begin a Thankful Journal on Thanksgiving day. Every night before bed, privately ask everyone in the family to tell you one nice thing about another member of the family and enter it into the journal. Do this every night until Christmas. On Christmas morning, before opening presents, read each entry out loud. What an amazing gift to the members of your family... and to God.
  • Get silly! Have everyone take turns coming up with a reason they are thankful for _____? (You decide!) Ideas: Burnt dinner, Ears, Baby Brother, The Dog, Flip Flops...
Wishing you all a Thanksgiving filled with more blessings than you can count!

Sweet Pumpkin Blessings,
LeAnn
