Like most of you, my schedule is just plain crazy! As women, many of us tend to think we need to take care of everyone and everything. Personally, I have trouble saying "no" when asked to serve on a committee, join a small group, attend a baby shower, etc. How do you squeeze it all in around dirty laundry, chauffeuring kids, running errands, working, cleaning, making meals and everything else?! I admit... I'm getting a little better with the word "no" when it comes to joining committees. However, there is a group that I recently "visited" and I am very glad that I did.
The Women of the ELCA have monthly meetings. Basically, if you are a woman and a part of the Spirit of Joy family, you are already a member of this group. You may not attend the meetings - but you are a member. I have been invited to attend these meetings for a couple of years but I've just been too busy. I could always come up with an excuse. I've got lots of them and they are all quite valid. However, it turns out that I have been missing out!
One of the most wonderful blessings that God gives us is sisters to hold onto as we journey along the path. When one begins to stumble or is just too weak to continue on the journey, a sister is right there beside her. I was lucky enough to witness this first hand at the last Women of the ELCA meeting. The women sat around a table and shared what was on their hearts. They discussed their vision for the women of Spirit of Joy and for the women in the community. They supported and encouraged each other. It was a diverse group of women. All ages, generations, and seasons of life were represented. And yet they shared a common bond... you!
About halfway through the meeting, the entire group stops to share prayer requests. I listened as my sisters-in-Christ shared about illnesses, broken families, addictions, and so much more. Then we joined hands and lifted each request up in prayer. And, we prayed for you.
Sisters - let me tell you - there is something very powerful about a group of women joining hands in prayer. I can't believe how long I have been missing out! You may have your own thoughts about what this amazing group of women is up to but I'm guessing that you are way off base. This is a group of Godly women who share a passion and a vision for the women of Spirit of Joy. They share a desire to serve you; to provide areas of ministry that will support you in your walk with Christ... no matter where you are in life and on this journey. I can only imagine what could be accomplished with more hands and more hearts.
I'll be "visiting" again next month. I hope to see you there!
Your Sister in Christ,
LeAnn
